7 Important Questions to Ask About NLP Certification in Singapore

Diverse group of people holding question signsAre you looking for an NLP Certification Course in Singapore?  Here are 7 important questions to ask yourself before you decide on your course provider:

What length of course is best for you?

For some people, a short 7-8 day course is sufficient to grasp all of the material for the NLP Practitioner or Master Practitioner Certification in Singapore.  Due to work constraints or other commitments, some people can only afford to take off this time to dedicate to self-development. For others, the full 18-day course is better.  The longer courses allow you more time to practice the material you are learning as well as integrate those things into you daily life.  Only you know which is the best way you learn. The other important thing to consider is the time away from family and friends.  Normally, shorter courses will include weekends in their training schedules as well as homework to do in the evening whereas some of the longer courses give you the weekends off and do not have extra homework.

What is your learning style?

Some people learn better by doing stuff (more hands-on focused) and others learn better by just reading or listening to material. Research suggests that the best way to learn is by hearing, seeing, doing and repeating.  Having all of these elements allows the brain to incorporate knowledge at deeper levels.  The more you have time to practice, the more knowledge “muscle” you build.

What focus is best for you?

Do you want to use your NLP skills in a specific area such as business (sales, HR, management)? Or do you want to become a coach and require a more therapeutic focus (hypnotherapy, coaching skills)?  Or do you want something that is more general and can apply to various different aspects of your life?  Make sure that you ask about the focus of the NLP Certification Course you are interested in.  You don’t want to be in a room full of sales people when you are trying to learn NLP to help in a relationship with teenage children.

What is the background and interests of the instructor?

Does the trainer have an extensive background in training and coaching NLP? Does the instructor attend international conferences on NLP? Does the trainer still coach other people in NLP? By asking these questions, you get an understanding of whether or not your trainer is still up-to-date in their knowledge of NLP. A trainer that doesn’t coach clients may only be teaching the theory of how NLP works rather than the actual practice of it. A trainer that doesn’t attend conferences may only have the base knowledge from their own training from years ago. It is important to know these things as well as how your trainer uses NLP in their own lives.

What support will you receive after the course?

If you have any questions or concerns after your NLP Certification Training in Singapore is over, where do you go for help? Is this help available over the phone, through email or live – in person? More importantly, how do you want the support? Are you the type of person that wants to sit down with someone over a cup of coffee/tea and have a discussion? Or are you happy to receive an email answer? Ask your would-be trainer what options are available and if your preferred option is available.

What opportunities do you have for ongoing practice and training?

Does the trainer provide practice groups or additional training after the course is over? Are those practice sessions live or online? Which do you prefer? Make sure that you are comfortable with how the company provides practice support. If you want NLP to become integrated in your life, you will need plenty of opportunities to practice.

Have you spoken to the Trainer and not to a salesperson?

Some trainers will speak to you directly about their course so you can get a feel for their personality, their passion for NLP, and how you get along with them.  Other trainers do not allow you access to them personally and instead require you to go through their sales process.  Be sure you are comfortable in your decision as the investment is quite important.  When you are in the course, it’s too late to change your mind.

Here are some popular choices for courses:

Hi. Yes, we have little mini practice sessions about NLP that are about 2 hours long and are held once per month. Our next one is at the end of September and can be found under the event listing. In each of these sessions, we focus on one topic of NLP. I will teach you about the topic and then we will have either a group exercise or exercises with partners to practice what we’ve learned. After the practice part, we open the session up for question and answer so you can ask anything about the topic or about NLP in general. I hope you will be able to join us on our next one. There will also be some other 1-day workshops coming up in October and November so stay tuned! Lindley, President NLPA

          Hi Tyler,
It’s great that you want to be a NLP Life Coach and you’ve already read the most important documentation with regards to choosing an NLP Instructor.
It’s important that you meet possible instructors you want to train you and understand their philosophy and their support after the course is over. And yes, you do need to be certified before you coach people and as you’ve read, not all certifications are equal. Just be diligent in your choice and the rewards will pay off.

      Hi John,

NLP has wonderful influencing techniques both linguistic as well as strategic ones. In your case, it’s best for you to use “I messages” to get your feelings across to the people around you. You can find this technique in part 2 of our 4-part conflict management video session. You will find it located on our Learn Online page.

You can attend an NLP Practitioner Certification course to learn more on the influencing techniques. Or you can also come to our practice sessions. We had 2 sessions last year on influencing skills.

Hi Ben. Thank you for your question. Let me answer it by explaining some stuff about NLP and the way you wrote your question. It appears that you have a limiting belief about yourself because you “ONLY” have a secondary school level education. You can only be limited by your thoughts. There are many people who had a similar education level and went on to become highly successful. They did so because they BELIEVED they could. You also limit yourself by saying you have poor understanding, poor communication and poor presentation. In NLP, we look at “linguistics” (the words you choose to say and how you say them) very carefully. What would happen if you didn’t believe you had poor understanding, poor communication and poor presentation skills? What would happen if you believed that with every second of every day you were increasing your skills? This is NLP. And yes, of course, you can learn anything you want to learn.

    Hello!

I am a homemaker and looking for NLP course preferably in the morning for therapeutic purposes. Depending on the fees, I could do a 5 day course to 18 days course. Further to NLP, I am also very interested in other courses like self hypnosis and EFT.

Would you please let me know the dates of these courses and fees too.

    Many thanks.

      Hi Monica,

The dates and fees for NLP Training courses in depend on which company you use in Singapore. First think about your outcome because obviously you will not get the same amount of therapeutic change from a 5-day course that you would get from a 18-day course. The fees for the courses range from $2400-$4300 but none offer morning only courses. Most organizations run their courses during the day from 9:30-5:30PM and some offer weekend-only courses. It’s best if you look at the top 4-5 training companies as each has their own specialty as well as fee structure and dates. Please email us for a list of these organizations if you don’t have one already.

      Hi Mark,

Thank you for your question. Each trainer in Singapore that provides NLP Certificaiton Courses does so through their own accreditation. For example, I’m trained and certified by the International Association of NLP (IANLP) whereas other trainers are trained and certified by organizations in the USA or in Australia. It isn’t the organization that has accreditation it’s the trainer. My certification requires me to provide everyone I train with a full 18-day certification course with examination. Not all trainers have this standard. Some trainers only have to provide 8 or 10 day trainings.

There are many things you can do with your certification (assuming that you complete both Practitioner and Master Practitioner courses). Depending on the training, you can be a life coach, executive coach or career coach (a shorter 8-day course would not be able to certify you as a coach – only a longer 18-day Master Practitioner would). You can also use your skills in marketing, sales, human resource and training & development. There are many opportunities that exist. It depends on your interests, the other skills that you have and the depth of your training. If you are interested in becoming a coach, I urge you to look into the longer courses in Singapore as they provide a greater degree of practice during the course as well as a longer and more intensive focus on the tools of NLP.

Hi. There is only one course that runs exclusively on weekends. If you Google “NLP Training” in Singapore then you’ll find it fairly easily. You can also attend the NLP Monthly sessions which focus on different areas of NLP. If you aren’t interested in certification, this might be an ideal route for you.

      Hi Chris,

The biggest question I need to ask is “are you working full time”? If so, your choices are limited. There are 1-on-1 trainings for NLP and as you can imagine, because they are tailored and 1-on-1 they will cost more than the standard course but they give you the flexibility of training on the weekends or after work. There are weekend courses in Singapore too. Make sure the course fits your requirements and that you’ll be learning specific tools to help others as an HR professional or coach. I had an HR VP in my NLP Practitioner Certification course this year who also will be taking the Master Practitioner/Coaching Certification. He also wanted to increase his skill set when working with people at the very top end of the corporate structure. What he found was amazing is how much his family life improved with the skills he learned during the course too. NLP helps in a holistic fashion. Creating a plan for the future is important. On average you should be saving 10% of your income each year for your own personal development. If you do this consistently, then you’ll be far ahead of your peers in your industry. And if you ever are between jobs, make sure you look into using that time to take a course, workshop or some type of training. Drop me an email if you ever want to chat about your personal situation and what you would like to do in the future. I’m happy to give you some thoughts on a direction to think about. Lindley

    Hi Lindley

My son recently has anxiety issue and weak will power due to his school work. He thought of giving up now as he can’t cope. (currently a year 2 undergraduate ). I thought of registering him in NLP which are 12days or 18 days course. Does it really help him on his anxiety issue, of course from the course he will gain on communication skills, find his inner self ,etc, or he just need to attend a course solely to help him overcome his anxiety which you had held it last Sept?

      Hi Madeline!
Thank you for your post regarding your son. I understand that your son is having issues regarding his school work and has thought of giving up. Here’s how NLP can help. First, learning state management is essential to young adults. This is a school they will use with their university studies as well as in their career. Imagine the ability to instantly change the way you think and feel regardless of the pressure you may face. Learning strategies is another tool taught in the NLP Certification course. It is essential to have the right strategies for the right task. In my course, we cover learning strategies, decision strategies (essential to overcoming anxiety) and memory strategies. These are all extremely important skills not only for university but also for work. There are many more skills I can list. I think the essence of NLP allows people to see possibilities instead of obstacles, to see solutions rather than problems and to know that they have the skills to excel in life no matter what is thrown their way. Let me know if I can chat more about NLP with you in person.

Hi I am working on obtaining my certification with ICF this December 2019 and I am
looking for a NLP Certification course in Singapore that would help compliment my ICF certification as a business and life coach

I have seen a program that is made up of :
    NLP Practitioner Certification
    Time Line Therapy Practitioner Certification
    NLP Coach Practitioner Certification

I do not see that they offer a master Practitioner. BTW how different is this from just a NLP Practitioner, what will a Master Practitioner do for me?
I open to a course that runs even up to 2 months on a part time basis.
The relevancy of the course is important as well as the certifications that compliment the ICF certification
Can you please recommend what I should be considering and who in Singapore would provide these courses.

    Thank you

      Hi Maurice
Thank you for your inquiry. And congratulations on your upcoming ICF Certification!
Let me answer your question by clarifying a few things. All NLP Certifications in Singapore train you in the process of “timeline” techniques. The organization you are looking at gives a Trademarked version of timeline processes their training. It’s up to you whether having this Trademark is important to you or not. For me, the important thing is having the skill set not whether or not a particular technique has a trademark on it.
The next clarification is that there are several levels of NLP Training. The first is NLP Practitioner Certification. This is the foundation course. Getting a good, solid fundamental understanding of NLP is crucial to your success as a coach. The next is NLP Master Practitioner Certification which can include the NLP Coaching Certification for some organisations whereas some others (short courses) has a completely separate coaching course. In NLP Master Practitioner, you are deepening your skillset by learning more complex NLP techniques that utilise multiple tools you learned in the NLP Practitioner. From my own personal experience with my own NLP Training, I would not have felt comfortable coaching people with NLP tools until AFTER I took the NLP Master Practitioner Course. I would highly recommend you speak to people who have taken the NLP Master Practitioner & Coaching Certifications and ask them if they would have felt comfortable coaching after just taking NLP Practitioner. I would be happy to connect you to some people if you would like.
If you’re looking for something that is part time, you will either need a weekend only course or a 1-on-1 course. There is only one organisation in Singapore that trains NLP 1-on-1.
And lastly any NLP Coaching certification (which would include the NLP Practitioner & Master Practitioner) will not only compliment your ICF training but more likely to replace it completely! In all of the trainings I have conducted, the reason people have come to my course is because they found ICF training to be highly inadequate to deal with real issues and real problems of their clients.
Send me an email if you would like to discuss further.
