It’s that time of year when people start writing goals or New Year’s Resolutions. And for some of you, you might be writing SMART goals – you know, the ones that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time Bound. For some of you, you prefer the NLP approach of a Well Formed Outcome or the SPECIFY model – Specific, Positive, Ecological, Choice Increasing, Initiated by self, First step identified, Your resources identified.
Don’t write another goal until you’ve come to this month’s practice session! You are going to learn a whole new way of looking at your goals and writing them so they FLOW.
A lot of people write SMART goals or Well Formed Outcomes and don’t achieve them. There’s a reason for that and I’m going to share it with you in this session. Don’t you want to know how to organise your goals so you actually can achieve them? Sure you do! Our brain loves to achieve stuff. It’s good for our self-confidence and our overall well-being.
The FLOW goal will bring clarity to what you want to achieve and provide the specific pathway for you to get there. It stops the “all-or-nothing” approach to goals. It accounts for the fact that life is going to throw you curve balls more than a few times while you are trying to achieve your goals. Because stuff happens, right? Family members get sick, divorce shatters, jobs change, finances shift, people die – stuff happens. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to deal with life’s ups & downs AND not lose focus on your goals?
