Tip # 6 – Stop Watching TV
“What? Stop watching TV? You’ve got to be insane! That’s how I relax at the end of the day.” I’ve heard it all before. What happens if watching TV equated to you being poor?
67% of rich people watch less than an hour of TV each day. 77% of poor people watch more than an hour.
Who you hanging with – the poor people or the rich people? I know what my CHOICE is . Let’s get a few things straight. You don’t actually have to watch the news anymore to get news. It’s all over the place. And if you really like the news (even though most of it is negative), then you probably have it streaming to your phone on a regular basis. You’ve seen and heard it all by the time you get home anyway. And what does watching TV have to do with relaxing? It actually does the opposite of relaxation. It fires a whole bunch of neurons in your head and is on of the causes of insomnia. People who watch more than an hour of TV also tend to be fat. No mystery there. It’s called the couch-potato syndrome.
Did you know that advertisers specifically target certain TV shows that put you in a more susceptible mental state that allows them to influence you to buy their products? And what about all those ads that come with the TV programs? UGH! What a waste of time!
Some of you are saying, “I don’t watch commercials. I record/buy my favorite shows.” Well good for you. You’re addicted. And worse, you’re living your life based on someone else’s drama. What about your own life? Isn’t there SOMETHING that needs to be done in your own life? If you spent the same amount of time working on your goals that you do watching whole TV series, you wouldn’t be where you are right now, would you?
There are so many other choices!
Why not read a book?
85% of rich people read 2 or more books per month.
Why not connect with those family members who rarely see you? Play a card game, a board game, or go for a walk!
76% of rich people exercise at least 30min 4X/wk.
Why not work on your goals?
80% of rich people have long-term goals. While only 12% of poor people do.
There are many other options. My husband is learning to play the guitar. I’m working on my business, watching educational videos on neuroscience and the art of negotiation. There are so many wonderful things to watch or listen to out there that will inspire you, motivate you and educate you. Some will even get you closer to your goals! Why not take this time to make a promise to yourself that you are going to cut the TV out for 30 days and work on 1 project instead. And at the end of the 30 days, let me know what you accomplished. I’ll probably try to negotiate another 30 days, just be warned.
