I don’t like cleaning. It’s really hard work. I cleaned my apartment last Sunday and spent 6 hours sweating. I fell asleep at 8:30PM because I was so exhausted. When I got up the next morning to a shiny home, I was peacock-proud of myself. Well done me!
Having a ‘clean’ environment is one of my keys to success. I’m not just talking about my apartment. It’s only a small part of my surroundings. What I’m talking about is my whole environment; the people I hang around with the most, where I live, where I work, what transportation I use, what’s in my cupboard or my refrigerator, etc. Anything I can see, hear, & touch around me is part of my environment.
So how do I keep it all clean? Proactively of course!
I don’t hang around negative people. If I must, for whatever reason (like I just met them), I limit my exposure to their negativity. My friends challenge me to be a better person and that’s why they are the ones I hang around with the most.
I don’t keep junk food in my house. No chips, ice cream, processed food, or other junk. I eat fruits and vegetables and whole grains. No, I’m not depriving myself or others! People say it’s because I don’t have kids. Whatever! Children don’t have a God-given right to eat junk food.
I live near a park so I can exercise in nature and the closeness means there’s never any excuse not to go out for a run or at least a long walk.
I ride a motorcycle or take public transport so I don’t guilt myself out worrying about the environment. I recycle!
I have a stand up desk so I don’t ruin my posture & when I do sit down at my office, my chair is a Swooper, which is basically a stool on a giant spring. I can bounce my way through the day. Fun!
These things and many others are in my environment because they are right for me. They keep me happy and healthy. I’ve spent time ensuring that my environment stays clean, just as I like it.
What about you? What parts of your environment keep you happy & healthy? What are the parts that might need a good scrub? Put on some gloves and get to work. The sweat is worth it!
